My Neighborhood - Florida

Lake Hamilton

The Town of Lake Hamilton takes its name from the three-lake chain which forms its western limit. Within the two square miles of the town live 1,121 citizens, who enjoy the quiet small-town atmosphere, and the handy conveniences of larger neighboring cities

Incorporated in 1925, Lake Hamilton retains the pace of an earlier era. Only limited commercial areas are located within the town limits, leaving the town's residential areas largely unaffected by the rapid growth around it.

Lake Hamilton is flanked by busy US Highway 27, and bisected by state road 17, the Scenic Highway. Just to the north lies Haines City, and Lake Wales is a short distance to the south. Winter Haven lies a few miles west on county road 542. In addition to a number of community shopping centers, a regional shopping mall in Lake Wales offers a variety of major department stores and national retailers.

A new business park has been developed along US 27 on the west side of the community, attracting new manufacturing concerns. A large citrus packing plant located on the Scenic Highway provides the largest number of jobs in the town.

Bordered on the south by the town of Dundee, Lake Hamilton shares certain community functions with its neighbor, including police and fire service dispatch. The Town of Lake Hamilton is governed by a mayor and a five member council. The town provides residents with two little league ball fields, two playgrounds, and a boat ramp. A new regional park facility is currently being developed by the Town of Dundee and Polk County.
