Lady Lake is primarily a retirement community. There are seven golf courses within a five-mile radius of the town. The area has experienced very rapid growth over the past several years. From 1990 through 1994, the town of Lady Lake was the eighth fastest growing municipality in Florida. As reported by the University of Florida's Bureau of Economic and Business Research Department, the population increased from 8,071 to 11,557.

Annual temperatures are in the low to middle 70s in the Lady Lake and Lake County areas. Summertime temperatures are about 82 degrees. July and August are the warmest months when temperatures often reach the mid-90s. Winter temperatures sometimes fall below 40 degrees. However, even in January and February, the temperature seldom falls below 50 degrees.
